More about my style and my therapeutic orientation:
I tailor my treatment according to each individual's unique needs/situation. As a part of my eclectic orientation, I draw upon the theory and techniques of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Humanistic Therapy, Family Systems Theory, Narrative Theory and Solution Focused Therapy. I subscribe to the belief that it is helpful and healthy to have a safe place to process life events.
Extensive research has shown that what we think has a direct effect on our emotions and our behavior, and one of my goals is to help you become aware of this dynamic process. For example, individuals with depression, anxiety, or low self esteem often have distorted thinking patterns. I will help you identify your unhelpful thinking patterns that might lead to your feelings of depression or anxiety. We will then work together to help you change your thinking, which in turn will help you feel better.
As human beings we have a wide range of emotions, some being tough to deal with. I will try to help you learn to respond to life rather than simply reacting to life from an emotional state of mind. In doing this you might find yourself living more in the present moment and less focused on all your troubles.
I abide by the American Counseling Association code of ethics, the American Mental Health Counselors Association, and the Oregon Mental Health Counseling Association.
